Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals in Stranraer are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance provisions, applicable charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To hire a vehicle in Stranraer, drivers must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions can differ based on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for those under 25. A valid full driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category, must be held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional requirements may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Stranraer office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Stranraer, a thorough inspection is required, and any pre-existing damage must be reported without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and signed to document the state of the vehicle. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, with allowances made for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at pickup; a refueling charge will apply if the tank is less full. Late returns may incur extra fees, so please contact us if you foresee a delay. You are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or fees incurred during your rental, along with a processing fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find full coverage details and excess amounts in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability, so it's beneficial to review these options. You will be responsible for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount unless you choose additional coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ depending on your booking type and the notice period provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or engaging in other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should not be used for purposes it was not intended for, and exceeding passenger or weight limits is unacceptable. Additionally, driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law, Car Hire Stranraer will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraudulent actions.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Scottish courts.
10. Terms Updates
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon publication on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
